Gar Fish (Kola - in Tamil) :

Garfish or Needle fish are easily recognized by their long thin bodies and long needle like mouths.  It feeds on small fishes. It is a commercial species, which is sold fresh and frozen. It is exported internationally. It is rich in essential nutrients, including potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and even small traces of calcium. Low in sodium, this fish is a meal rich in vitamins, protein, and certainly taste.

This video is taken at Kasimedu, North Chennai. Kasimedu is one of the important fishing port in Chennai. A usual day starts here busily at 4 a.m. They supply fish to some of the top hotels in the city. Nearly 30,000 people visit the auction hall situated near the harbor everyday. 30 percent is sent to other States such as Karnataka and Kerala too.
